Good because: Shows differences in what shapes and sized vulva's come and breaks taboo's
Bad because: Does cultural appropriation and above that, I feel like they knew what they were doing and it was a publicity stunt
Important because: Tries filling in the gaps of history. It's an ode towards black people in history, who deserve a spot in here as well.
Frivolous because: Not because it is not important, but because of bringing it in a fun and careless way. It was meant as fun and funny and gives a lighter look upon feminism
Intelligent because: Way of using science and optic illusion to make a statement in an installation artwork.
Stupid because: It was a campaign called junglemood with just black people with chains on their feet
Beautiful because: For me this represents black fashion inspired by African culture at its finest
Ugly because: For me this represents everything I don't like about the USA
Craftmanship because: This woodwork is traditional artwork made in de woods by the Marron people in Suriname. This is all hand carved.
Design because: Studio Drift is most design too me. It's technology meets issues in society.
“Even to use a word like racism is to be heard as complaining not only in the sense of being

negative or mean but also in the sense of being self-promotional; a sore point as a point

that is pushed. Racism is often directed all the more to those who complain all the more

about racism. Racism is not just an idea about who is worth what or more, about how

higher and lower become properties of persons organised into clear and distinct groups.

Racism is how ideas are expressed in or through actions; how some try to make others

smaller, less significant; less valued. This is why the judgement of getting above yourself,

above your station, or ahead of yourself is so often racialised. Even talking about racism

can be heard as making too much of yourself. (2)”

From what I have seen Ahmed is mentioning complaints a lot. In which you don’t get any acknowledgement whenever you would file a complaint when there is a case of being treated unrightfully. Which redirects towards not getting any recognition and validation of your feelings and it being labeled as a negative person being easily agitated.

What I especially thought is interesting about this part of the article, is the way there is looked upon racism and how this is being treated. In just this little piece it gives a clear description of the problematic system that we are in, in which the people being a victim of all sorts of racist acts and are being treated as if it is their problem or even are the problem. It shows that within this, black/indigenous/people of color are being treated as smaller and are expected to get over it, because it supposedly is not a big deal. It is about the lack of empathy, but having the harasser expecting this from the harassed one. Especially in moment where in my eyes, you can not expect empathy, the harasser expects this.

The last part also sparked my attention, because you can clearly tell that this is still something uncommon to discuss. Just because it would put you in a bad lighting towards the other person. They are afraid of being accused of anything and which feels like an attack to them and label you as self centered when bring this up. It is almost forbidden to call someone racist or to point out their racist behavior. And this all, just because you could hurt someone’s feelings or they write it of as a joke or saying they did not mean it like that.

I chose this article with in particular this part, because I feel like I have been seeing this kind of behavior a lot and have gone through this with people close to me. It is something that makes your mental state very fragile and therefore is such an malicious act. The way Ahmed takes you through this subject gives a very clear point of view of what this is like, but also how all of this comes together.
